The goal – a new PhD grant!
Our aim is to launch a new grant to support and encourage PhD research in psychiatry – the Foundation Partners PhD grant – in July 2024.
A PhD grant was chosen as our first priority area as we receive many exceptionally high-quality grant applications – more than we can currently fund – that are ready to be funded and advanced. We need your support to help turn new research ideas into a reality – and enable the research leaders of tomorrow to succeed.
Future directions and goals will be informed by Foundation Partners in consultation with the RANZCP Foundation Committee and the RANZCP Board.
Our promise to you
100% of your funds are used on new projects – so you can see exactly how your money is used. Collectively, twenty five partners can fund one $50,000 PhD scholarship. Every Foundation Partner grant, scholarship and award is funded by you.
We are transparent with your funds. We are registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission and are a member of the Fundraising Institute of Australia. We will be here to answer your questions, listen to your ideas and create a meaningful partnership.
RANZCP Foundation: An effective way to give
The RANZCP Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the College dedicated to the vision of transforming mental health care and creating a world of potential. The RANZCP Foundation is an effective and impactful way to give.
100% of donations go towards our vision as the College covers all overheads. Donations are tax-deductible in Australia. Donations are managed wisely, and grants are awarded fairly and transparently.
Mental health research receives less funding than other National Health Priority Areas, and philanthropy can help bridge funding gaps, shift norms, and drive change.
We leverage the skills and networks of our professional community to achieve more with less.

Frequently asked questions
Who are Foundation Partners?
Foundation Partners are a community of generous benefactors who demonstrate leadership and commitment to the RANZCP Foundation and play a vital role supporting innovative research and the next generation of psychiatrists.
What is my commitment?
Foundation Partners commit to giving a minimum of $2,000 per year. We encourage you to join for more than one year to see the impact of your contribution and help us realise our vision.
How will my contribution be used?
Your gift will be used to foster, facilitate and promote scholarship, research, leadership and training in psychiatry in Australia and New Zealand.
How can I be more involved?
Foundation Partners have the opportunity to contribute towards determining the direction of the Foundation and how funds are used. Consensus is important to determining our focus area. We will invite experts from across the College to speak to the group about funding trends, gaps, and opportunities to make an impact. Ultimately the Foundation Committee is responsible for ensuring that the focus areas and direction proposed by Foundation Partners aligns with the values and mission of the RANZCP Foundation – and the strategic direction of the RANZCP.
What is the Foundation Partners grant?

How are grants awarded?
All grants are independently assessed, reviewed, and scored by an independent selection panel to maintain a robust and impartial system. Whilst Foundation Partners may have a say in the direction of grants it is essential that the awarding process remain independent.
Are my contributions tax deductible?
Australia: Yes, all donations $2 and over are tax-deductible.
Aotearoa/New Zealand: We are working on securing tax deductibility in NZ. If this is of interest to you, please let us know so we can keep you updated.
Who can join?
Anyone. All Fellows, Affiliates and trainees of the College are automatically eligible for membership. All other supporters must be approved by the RANZCP Foundation Committee.
How will I know if I am making a difference?
We will provide regular updates and meet at least twice each year to examine the projects we have funded and determine the impact the group has had.
What is the reporting structure?
The RANZCP Foundation Committee is responsible for reporting to the RANZCP Board and ensuring that all actions and focus areas of the Foundation Partners Program align with the strategic direction, charitable status and reputation of the RANZCP.
